What I did 3 years ago that changed my life...

My life has changed pretty drastically in the past 3 years.  In that time, I’ve had a son and a daughter, I’ve said goodbye to my first dog and have welcomed a new one into our home.

3 + years ago...ahh look at how rested we looked before kids :)

These have all been MAJOR life changes for us, but I did one thing 3 years ago that changed the trajectory of my life…….

I bought my first DSLR camera.

This might sound minor compared to the life changes I listed above, but if it weren’t for purchasing that camera, I never would have realized how much I love photography.  If it weren't for purchasing that camera, I would not have practiced day and night, learning everything I can about it, and ultimately opening my photography business!!

Like many new parents, I wanted to be able to take “nice” pictures of my son, so about a month before he was born, I shopped for my first ‘big girl’ camera.  It was this red Nikon d5300. Red is not my color, but I was so eager to get it that I didn't even wait until the black one was restocked.

I had no idea that purchasing and using that red camera would bring me to where I am today.

  • 3 years ago little did I know I would be blessed with not one, but two of the sweetest children in the whole world.

  • 3 years ago, I knew my time was running out with my feisty White German Shepherd, Gala, and never imagined we would be blessed with our gentle Curly Coated Retriever, Blue.

  • 3 years ago I didn't even know what documentary family photography was and now it is my passion.

  • 3 years ago, I had no idea how to shoot in manual mode on my camera and now its all I shoot.

  • 3 years ago, I NEVER imagined I would have a photography business!

Here I am, just three years later...I have a business open where I get to help other moms, dads & families capture moments of their little ones, fur babies and their lives.

I am so glad that I bought that camera because I was able to take these pictures that I will always cherish:

Okay, I really just put this one in here so you could check out his hair...wild, right? He was 3 1/2 months old here!

My son and his Halmonie (Korean for Grandma) :) Oh how they love each other!

Everything about this one makes my heart melt!!

My red camera now sits in a bag on my shelf, waiting for me to pull it out to teach my husband how to take pictures in manual mode.  A black camera is now what I use to tell the stories of the families I photograph.

The unintentional theme of my life these past 3 years has been ‘how fast it goes.’

3 more years will pass, even if we will them not too and by then, who knows where we will be! I would love to be part of your family story by photographing you right where you are...I would love to hear from you and some of the changes you have gone through these past 3 years!  Comment below to share :)

Does life go fast?  Does it ever, but sometimes in the best way!
